A major malady of carpet color is light fading. It can be caused by sunlight, lighting for plants, or other sources. Remedial results are usually excellent. In these photos, notice the sunfading around where the stereo sat. After redyeing, the carpet looked almost new.

Primarily, it is the breakdown of the dyes due to their inability to dissipate absorbed energy. Although it is a situation that can look hopeless, it is relatively easy and inexpensive to remedy. At a fraction of the cost of replacement, results of this type of repair work are very pleasing and effective. Usually it gives a near-new color level and adds years of carpet life. Even the most severe sunfading can be recolored.
