Furniture Stain Repair

A Color Repair Specialist encounters a diversity of color related problems in carpet. Quite often these ailments are considered non-repairable, except by patching. A persistent problem encountered is furniture staining.

Furniture stains in carpet have been a chronic problem. Contrary to common belief, the majority of these blemishes are correctable — without patching! Notice in the photos above, that even furniture stains in off-white carpet can be removed. The remaining indentations from the furniture will come out naturally on their own, or they may be steamed out.

Contrary to common belief, the vast majority of these color blemishes are correctable without patching! Even cherry wood stains on off-white wool carpet can be made virtually invisible!

A furniture stain is often a combination of stains. It can contain a varnish with pigments and/or dyes. Sometimes rust is involved. Unraveling a combination stain of this type requires several steps in the procedure, which may include spot dyeing. Yet these stains can be made indiscernible, even to the most critical eye.

The biggest problems encountered on this type of job are 1) reversing damage caused by previous removal attempts, and 2) customer skepticism. Usually the job itself is not that much of a problem. Very badly stained carpets may need rectifying procedures done in stages, especially wool carpets. Very few, however, defy all attempts of remedial work.

A common scenario: residential, freshly cleaned, off-white nylon carpet with a half to one dozen wood stains from unprotected chair legs. This type of job typically costs a few hundred dollars to correct, assuming it has not been complicated by other factors. Previous inexperienced attempts can dramatically increase the cost. Sometimes even to the point of non-rectification by color repair.

Carpet replacement would many times involve replacing numerous yards of carpet (possibly throughout the residence) and disrupting the household. Usually patching would show and would be unacceptable. Instead, for a price usually less than the insurance claim's deductible, the problem can be alleviated.
